Really dig the work and thanks for the kudos.  Really do appreciate the inclusion of the STO and Pocket Books material (I loves me some U.S.S. Aventine).

Couple things:

a) I realize that Cortex tends to run more cinematic, but I kinda miss the tunable settings on the weaponry (especially since phasers aren't supposed to be always a lethal weapon)

b) No pic for the Triexians, or just preferred to use photos instead of Animated Series screengrabs? Smiley

Your work was a huge part of what got me fired up enough to do the pdf!

a) I didn't include it in the combat section, but I figure it'd be perfectly reasonable to fire a phaser at a lower setting, so that even if the damage for a type X phaser is d12 + d8, you could fire it at d10 if you wanted to. Actually, I'll go ahead and add that to my working copy so that the next time I update the pdf it'll be included along with everything else.

b) Lol, yeah, I tried searching for a suitable photo for the Triexians, but the few I did find looked so out of place (Crappy quality screengrab or Toy shot) compared to all the other images in the pdf that I just opted with not including a picture for them.

I think he meant the personal scale phasers (pistol and rifle).  'Cause they only changed the settings on the ship's phasers in one or two episodes.  Excellent work BTW.

Glad you guys like it.  Grin

We can extend the same principle to the personal phasers, so that you can have variable levels of lethality and stun.

e.g. A Phaser Pistol has a maximum rating of d8 W, but can be reduced to d6, d4, or even d2 W. You can also set the weapon to stun, along with the variable settings.

We could also use this as a counterpoint to the lack of versatility in disruptor weapons by saying that a Disruptor Pistol would have no variable setting other than switching damage from Wound to Stun.

I'll add this to my working copy, keep the ideas flowing!

I think with some of the Klingon Disruptors they never even had a Stun Setting.

"This process is also used in handheld weapons. Klingon disruptors are carried on the hip and fire short and rapid bursts of energy. Jem'Hadar disruptors act much like Klingon ones in that they fire short and rapid bursts of energy. This particular energy, even at its lowest setting, can be fatal. The energy prohibits the natural clotting agents in the blood and the victim bleeds to death. Romulan disruptors, also carried on the hip, fire a continuous burst of focused energy much like a phaser."

Sorry couldn't remember when it said it so tried looking it up. That would seem to suggest the disruptor can have different settings just not Stun. That could be a disadvantage. Also I think Worf's Brother commented on how Klingon Weapons didn't require a stun setting when he was working under Odo.

I think that most of the early disruptors likely didn't have stun settings. So Klingon and other disruptors likely had no stun setting in the Enterprise era (22nd century), but developed it in later eras (maybe by the late 23rd century).

I was going off of the entry on disruptor pistols in http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Disruptor_pistol

I can email you the file if that would work better for you, but there's no other link to it. I just checked out the filefactory site and it seems to be working okay at the moment.

Nice write-up! Though I gotta say when I googled an image for the one wing and found it ... man, that is one ugly-looking ship.  Shocked

Thanks, I like the FASA ships I just don't like the system. I didn't actually realise it was ugly though I suppose I could add that as a trait not sure on the level probably D4-D6.

Just thought that some Klingon ships should probably have the Hated Trait D4 Allows Plot points to be spent against it even if characters aren't directly involved.

The write up itself is fine, but why in the south side of Sihnon did you pick an obscure POS like the D-11!?

Same reason I picked the Luckless earlier on the thread I liked the ships background. I also liked how the D-11 ended up being used to fulfill a different role to what it was originally designed for.
I also guess that part of the reason is I always liked the Klingon ships better than the Federation and face it the Federation have lot's of ship designs being the focus of the show.

I just ran my first Cortex game...Star Trek universe...using iltharanos' pdf.  The overall game went well, I have been asked to come back and do it all again.  I haven't done ship combat...yet.  I ran them through an old FASA adventure, with very little re-writing to do.  Again, overall rather smooth, next time I'll get them to actually shoot at something.  I figured out how to deal with hand phasers btw.  I'm going to (provided they shoot something!!) use with slight modifications the Decipher/CODA system for energy weapon damage.  Well, back to plotting their demise...uh...I meant next great adventure!!

Sweet. Glad to hear it went well for you. I'd love to hear the details of your game, i.e. if you're running an old FASA adventure, is your game set in the TOS era? What species are your players? What ship are they using?  Grin

The year is 2310...so 17 years after Star Trek 6 and the first half of Generations.  2 Humans, an Orion Female as Captain, an Andorian and a Trill..so far.  They're flying a Constellation Class cruiser.  I figure I'll go through a couple of FASA adventures (with some minor tweakage) before jumping to some homebrews.  The first adventure was FASA's 'The Vanished'...the crew of a deep space research station goes missing while talking to the players as a magnetic storm approaches.  Good clean fun, especially after they discover the surprise awaiting them on the station.  Next up is going to be 'Witness for the defense'...another interesting adventure...can you say "Horta"?  I knew you could.
