Character Generator Program.

Good day !
Once it gets moderator approved, my new character creator program, Recruiter, will be in the BSG downloads section.
It handles stats, traits and skills. It also deals with equipment and has a small section for editing a quick character biography.
Theres an archetype system, which you can edit and import certain types of characters. Included are :
Pilot
Marine
Commander
Civilian
Although civilian is just the average archetype, with no particular bias towards antyhing.

Updated this generator this morning. It now has a mechanism for rank, choosing or just having one randomly assigned.

I noticed one glitch with it. You can't add Assets. I hope its a minor thing, otherwise I like the layout.

Damn, how did I miss that ?
Found the problem and fixed it easily enough though. Expect beta3 to be uploaded sometime within the next 30 minutes.

DrStrangeLug’s character generator program
Composure
can be found in CS|RPG’s Downloads section. If I'm not mistaken, "Recruiter" is just a data modification.

Actually recruiter is a little bit more than a data mod. For starters it handles the changes to the trait system from major/minor to the die mechanic.
There aqlso a rank selector and a few other changes.
The cortex admin disliked me uploading changes as it used a lot of disk space (which is really expensive these days!) So I stopped updating.
I'm at my new gf's right now, but when I get home I'll upload the latest version.

It was in the download section, I dont know if it still is. I kept making modificaitons and uploading new versions but the site host got a little pissie at the hard drive space I was costing him. Because hard drives are SO expensive these days, cost almost a 1/33rd of a penny to host 6mb. Even with server raided drives its going to cost lest than a penny.
Consequently I've stopped uploading it, but PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you. You'll need java installed (
http://java.sun.com
).
I do like the look of the wolfs lair one, the tactical console looks brilliant. I've been meaning to write the tactical console myself but wont have the time before the campaign I'm planning starts.

OK, thanks to a really crappy upload interface I've put beta 10 on my webspace.
http://www.luggypm.plus.com/Recruiter.jar
Remember it's just a work in progress. I'm actually planning on redoing it soon.
Beta 10 has ranks listed from the Thin Blue Line.

Damn , thought that might happen.
It shouldnt try to upload them - but it does extract several files and store them locally (so you can edit them and add stuff , like custom weapons, traits, skills, etc). It should ask you where to put them when you first start it - did you cancel that box?

Mine loaded fine - but it tried to create a new directory. I put it in an established one instead and it seems to work just great

Quite enamoured of this, actually.
I always used to use Composure and then edit it for BSG charries.
But. When managing Archetypes, is it possible to remove the minimum skill level in each category? That seems to really swallow up a lot of skill points that I would expect to use elsewhere.

Not with the current system, no. The way archetypes work is that the skills level represents the chances of a skill point landing in a skill. If you upped all skills to max expect [for example] artistry then artistry
probably
wont get any skill points. But it might, its random. Its mean to produce more rounded characters, albeit less focussed ones.
The groups work like child skills, having a probability. But when you hit a group how it behaves differently depending on the group type.
A weighted groups is where the skills behave like normal, you hit a group and it uses the settings for each group member and randomly allocates points. For example you could group Pistols, Assualt Rifles and Shotgun, then give the group a really high rating. That means that a lot of points will probably end up in one of those three.
Exclusive groups are different . When an exclusive group is first given a point it allocates it as normal, but all other points that hit that group go into the skill that got the first point. For example you might want Brawing, Martial Art, and Boxing. This would mean you'd get characters that were experts in one of them, with no knowledge of the other.
So you could put all the skills you werent interested in into an exclusive group then give the group a lower priority than the rest of the skills.

No, just a computer programmer.
I'm trying to decide if my next one will be written as a web app.
