Hi all, just stirring up some dust and agnst with my latest topic.   I have to say that I didn't watch all of Caprica, just flipped in and out when I couldn't take it anymore.  The main theing/theme I gotten from all the trailers and the first episode is about technology, it seems that the show will in part focus on the rapid development of technology and its effects on people and society at large.

#1:  How do people react to the technology.
#2:  How accepting of the technology they are.
#3:  How do they use it.
#4:  What limits they place on it and its applications in society at large.

That all being said it still seems to me that this will all be masked over by strong soap operaish overtones.  You know who's screwing, who's betraying who, who's sleeping with whom.  In addition to the power struggles between the Adama's and Graystone's with billions of cubits to be made.  This is sad.
However, there could be some good things to come out of this show.  We could get a look a Colonial culture, perhaps some more info on the other colonies, the development/birth of the cylons, and the attitude that leads to the first cylon war. Maybe even some new ship types and possible towards the end the first battlestars being built.  I personally think the show should focus on the cylons with Zoe and Tamara as the prototypes heralding what is to come.  This still could happen as the show has just begun but with how the plan and BSG came out I'm not hopeful.

Well that's it folks fire all Salvos when ready.

I enjoyed it.  I think grappling with the effects of technology is one part of this show that works well and I like that it's not front and center; I always hated the issue of the week crap Star Trek's latter series would toss at us.  (Oh, look!  It's a thinly veiled AIDS screed!)

I don't mind the soap opera aspect.  If the writing and acting are up to snuff, it should pull viewers in.  I'll give it a chance.

Well, from what I have read, it's more like "North and South" (you know, the one with Patrick Swayze, James Read, Johnathan Frakes, Kirstie Alley, etc.) than a standard soap opera. And that's not that bad, I guess.

Yeah I reeatched the first episode again and I have to say that I a little bit impressed.  I liked seeing the first cylon prototype in action that was cool. Grin The next episode seems to hint at something good to when he reveals the cylon to the goverment.  I'm looking forward to that scene. Though I have to say that I'm not sure why they've brought in the whole soliders of light thing and the one god.  I guess it to tie in with BSG and show how the cylons came to believe in thier one god.  By the way Zoe is a spoiled brat. Watched the second episode and was impressed with first two minutes or so -- the montage of TV shows gave some interesting insight into elements of the civilization.  Erased it by accident -- anyone catch the name of the business show? Cubits & Huh ...if it's a take-off on Dollars and cents, we have a "cent" for the cubit.  Airships -- at least two different types shown.  As an airship aficionado, I like this.  Later, group marriage, apparently rare but legal.

I particularly like the faux '60s look of the cars (Citron DX and a Jaguar XK120) and clothing (lots of hats...)
